Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44

Robert Schumann

Piano, String Quartet

Beaux-Arts Trio

mid-70s Coupled with the Piano Quartet.

Gil's top choice. Very well recorded, beautifully played, and everything is beautifully judged. A great way to get both works.

Victor Aller / Hollywood String Quartet

1955 Mono recording. A little rough sounding.

The interpretation is just wonderful and engaging. They have that romantic repertoire in their bones.

Arthur Rubinstein / Guarneri Quartet

1966 Fairly clear stereo.

The proverbial aristocratic interpretation. It has nobility, beauty of phrasing, power, and drama. Just gorgeous.
