Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115

Johannes Brahms

Clarinet, String Quartet

Gervase de Peyer / Melos Ensemble of London

1964 Pretty good sounding, very present and full.

Gil's top choice, mainly for the artistry of the group. They have that Brahmsian warmth, and the way they move together really works well. Gorgeous playing.

Karl Leister / Brandis Quartet

mid-90s Digital sound.

Leister has a more mellow tone, giving it even more of that meditative quality. The Brandis Quartet plays with warmth and moves together well.

Thea King / Gabrieli Quartet

1986

A gorgeous recording with beautiful Hyperion sound. King plays with wonderful artistry and taste, and the Gabrieli Quartet is very expressive.

Plateselskap: Hyperion

Reginald Kell / Busch Quartet

1937 Vintage recording.

A real classic. The Busch Quartet brings wonderful interpretive insights and is beautifully expressive. A very famous interpretation despite the slightly dimmer sound.
