Songs (Complete, incl. Songs and Dances of Death)

Boris Christoff, Alexander Labinsky / Georges Tzipine / Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française

Complete songs, with piano accompaniment; Songs and Dances of Death with orchestra. 1950s Mono recordings; Tzipine conducts the orchestral songs.

Top choice. The proverbial classic. 'Wonderful, virile character from Christoff... he's just so natural in this repertoire.' His deep, flexible bass is perfect for inhabiting the wide variety of moods in Mussorgsky's songs.

Apple Music — Selected songs from the complete set: The Nursery, Sunless, Songs and Dances of Death, and individual songs.
