Franz Schubert

D. 959A major

Murray Perahia

1987

Gil's top choice for Sonata No. 20. A 'wonderfully eloquent version,' 'beautiful in that slow movement,' and 'powerful at times when it needs to be.' 'Wonderfully recorded.'

Apple Music — Schubert’s Sonata D. 959 on an album with Schumann’s Sonata No. 2.

Artur Schnabel

1937

A classic recording 'right up there with his Beethoven.' Schnabel shows 'wonderful character, wonderful insightfulness, the way he was able to build and sustain tension as well as have this beautiful color and legato.' Sound is 'fairly well recorded' for its age.
