Roman Trilogy (Pines, Fountains, Festivals)

Ottorino Respighi

Recordings

Top Choice

Arturo Toscanini / NBC Symphony Orchestra

late 1940s-early 1950s Mono. Sound is dry but fairly clear.

Recommended mono recording because it's just that good. You won't care about the sound after hearing Toscanini's passion, excitement, and virtuosity. It's overwhelming, one of the best things he did.

Also Worth Hearing

Fritz Reiner / Chicago Symphony Orchestra

1959 Only Pines and Fountains. Fantastic sound.

If you want demonstration sound quality (for Pines and Fountains). Fantastic RCA Living Stereo sound, so colorful you can hear everything. Very exciting playing. A standard.
