String Quintets (K. 515 & K. 516)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

String Quintet

Talich Quartet

1980s or early 90s

Gil's top choice. The Talich Quartet, known for their interpretive insights, brought those qualities of 'dark, ruminative qualities' to the G minor quintet. The others are also wonderfully played.

Grumiaux Trio

early 70s

The classic version. Consummate classical poise and artistry. Beautiful playing, wonderful balance, wonderfully judged tempos, and wonderful sound.

Amadeus Quartet

String Quintets Nos. 3–6 1950s

Warm, beautifully poised performances, retaining their appeal despite the rougher mono sound.
